"A quick search on Google for “Internet of Things” term results in over 20,80,00,000 results, which shows how much interest Internet of Things or IoT has been able to generate in a short span of few years. Many industry experts and leaders are calling Internet of Things (IoT) as the next Industrial Revolution, or the Next Internet.

A report by Verizon, titled “State of the Market: Internet of Things 2016”, predicts that the worldwide IoT market spend will grow from $591.7 billion in 2014 to $1.3 trillion in 2019 with a compound annual growth rate of 17%. Verizon credits an evolving regulatory landscape and growing consumer expectations for the rising adoption of IoT. Another report by Business Insider, “The Internet of Things Ecosystem” projects there will be 34 billion devices connected to the internet by 2020, up from 10 billion in 2015. Business Insider predicts that IoT devices will account for 24 billion, while traditional computing devices (e.g. smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, etc.) will comprise 10 billion. They estimate that nearly $6 trillion will be spent on IoT solutions over the next five years."

"The world is quietly being reshaped by machine learning. We no longer need to teach computers how to perform complex tasks like image recognition or text translation: instead, we build systems that let them learn how to do it themselves.

The most powerful form of machine learning being used today, called “deep learning”, builds a complex mathematical structure called a neural network based on vast quantities of data. Designed to be analogous to how a human brain works, neural networks themselves were first described in the 1930s. But it’s only in the last three or four years that computers have become powerful enough to use them effectively.

Google’s own implementation of the idea, an open-source software suite called TensorFlow, was built from the ground up to be useable by both the researchers at the company attempting to understand the powerful models they create, as well as the engineers who are already taking them, bottling them up, and using them to categorise photos or let people search with their voice."
